A message from ADC (Scout Fellowship) Paul Jones
Happy New Year to one and all. I hope you had a wonderful time over the festive period and have fully recovered and are back in the swing of things. December and january have been busy months for the members of Birkenhead Scout Fellowship. Firstly, we had the opening of theMuseum exhibition : Be Prepared - The Story of birkenhead Scouting and I would like to thank members who attended the event and who have visited since
Another good turnout by members was at the District carol service at Christ Church Oxton. The collection went well despite a few organisational hiccups and I believe the money collected has topped up the Jellybean Fund.
My apologies for not being able to attend the main sort at Scout Post - a combination of work patterns and a lack of transport were the main factors. I understand that the Fellowship had very good attendance records throughout the sort period and I hope that everyone will be able to attend the Presentation Night at wallasey Town hall on february 5th either to help with refreshments or just to attend the event.
The Birkenhead district fellowship Dinner was the first big event of my diary for 2008 and what a night it was. A fabulous turnout by members, their partners and supporters of the fellowship. I was made to feel very welcome, had a pleasant meal and chatted with members about their lives in Scouting. I got home a lot later than I thought I would ! Thank you all again for a wonderful evening.
So we come to the Centenary of Scouting Celebration day. A lot of hard work was put in by many individuals and groups of people to make the day run smoothly, but on the day I was most impressed with the Fellowship. From the moment they arrived with the big teapot, every member worked hard all day. Teas, coffees and juices all served with a smile, even with the unexpected timetable changes. Once the VIP's had left the building mebers had their sleeves rolled up again and I thank the members for stepping up and helping Gill and Carol with the setup at short notice.
Census figures have now been collected and I have submitted two forms as ADC (Scout Fellowship), one for the Birkenhead District Scout Fellowship and one for the 1st Birkenhead Active Support Unit thus making it all official.
After the Scout Post Presentation Evening our next big event will be St. George's Day Parade and Service on 27th April. Details have not been confirmed so I will inform you what role the Fellowship will play in the next edition of Contact
